everyone is different and every situation is unique ... it comes down to can you separate your feelings of emotion and friendship. I would hope that you were friends with your ex. It also depends on the honesty level in your relationships, if there was mistrust and deceit at the center of the relationship there is gonna be resentment, but if yall were honest and were cool before and the relationship just "didnt work out" i dont see why it couldnt work. Im cool with mad chicks i used to have sex with, and not cool with a few, so its situational, but it is possible.
From prior experiences, I'm not good at being friend's with a recent ex, I need some time to get back to myself, shake her off and let her get over me. More than likely, we can be cool, once I'm done with someone I'm done "on a serious tip". Besides half the time, after you become friends you start discovering all the reason's you left their ass alone from the get go and end up moving the fuck on.
In my honest opinion i feel its very difficult for exs to be friends if the feelings are still in play. It will be hard to do certain things with a ex then it would be if it was a natural friend. To even hang around someone you still have feelings for compromises the friendship cause there will always be thoughts in the back of both parties head (example: what if ? damn i want that person back ? is it ok if I made an innocent move on them ?) I think RL and Deborah Cox was on to something when they made that song. Too much emotion between 2 friends lead to conflict and confusion. When will there actually be a time where yal can consider yourselves "friends" ??? I have an ex that Im odee cool with now and thats because things took time to heal and we didnt speak for almost a year now we have a common ground set with each other so its easier to be friends. Now if there was no feelings between the 2 and no hard feelings after the break up then hey it might just work out. But exs being friends are a car crash waiting to happen.

I think if you really don't wanna be involved with that person for whatever reason then no. But if the break up was clean and mutual why not....
